Editorial Standards

How we decide what to publish, and what to do when we get it wrong.

Corrections and updates

A factual error is corrected and the correction is disclosed on the article. An addition that does not change the original meaning is published as a timestamped update rather than a silent edit.

We do not quietly rewrite published text. If the record changes, the change is part of the record.

Retraction

Where errors are serious enough that a piece cannot be corrected in place, we retract it. A retracted article keeps its URL and states plainly that it was retracted; deleting the page would break every link that pointed at it and erase the fact that we published it.

Opinion and reporting

Opinion is labelled as opinion, in text, with prominent authorship. It is never distinguished by colour alone, and it does not get a different header, typeface, or visual treatment that might read as a separate publication.

Commercial integrity

Advertising may participate in the layout but never impersonates editorial content. Disclosure is textual and structural, and it cannot disappear because a stylesheet or an async request failed.
